Vinho Verde is the Wine for the Weekend of 12/06/19

The reason I chose Vinho Verde is that I will try to recommend great affordable wines each week. Inexpensive wines from California are hit or miss at best. And, this is why Vinho Verde is the Wine for the Weekend of 12/06/19. Isn’t it better to try wines from other countries that are affordable, good and reliable? Also, it is pronounced veen-yo-VER-day. It translates to green wine. Don’t let that scare you. It’s a white wine with a green tint. See the picture below. you might not even notice. And, Vinho Verde is not a grape, it is a region.

Aromas and Tastes

Serve Vinho Verde chilled. It is a fresh and crisp tasting wine with a tiny bit of effervescence. Look for aromas and tastes of peaches, orange blossom, apples and pears. It is a great aperitif which is a wine with which to greet your guests for the holidays! And, it goes well with the right foods. Vinho Verde pairs nicely with food all over Portugal. Seafood is the dominant cuisine. For example, meaty white fish like cod goes well. Also, shrimp and cheeses like goat cheese are a match. It makes a good choice for the wine for the weekend of 12/6/19.

Basic Vihno Verde wines are only $8 and taste great! That beats spending $16 on a wine with a piece of cake on the label. It is a blend of grapes. And, it comes in single variety wines. Gapes like loureiro and alvarinho are good. And, there are rose, sparkling rose and red Vinho Verdes!
