Varieties

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most popular red wine in America mostly because it grows wonderfully in Napa Valley. As time went by, growers expanded the areas to plant.

Chardonnay Wines

Chardonnay and the wines it makes are amazing. It is the most popular white wine in the world empowered by France in the Old World and California in the New World.

Grenache Wines

France and Australia use grenache mostly as a blending grape. Spain makes grenache wines that are blends or 100%. Italy makes wines that are 100% grenache.

Malbec

France is malbec’s ancestal home. They still make great wines. Most malbecs are made in Cahors, France. It’s a tiny town with a gorgeous bridge. Cahors is a small town that lies east of Bordeaux.

Merlot Wines

There are many great merlot wines, especially in France, but they are pricey. I would like to recommend great, but affordable merlot wines for the most part with an occasional expensive one thrown in.

Moscato d'Asti Wines

Why moscato? Because, it pleases almost everybody. It is fruity, aromatic and sometimes even sweet. Moscato is the easiest to drink of all wines and is low in alcohol.

Pinot Grigio Wines

Pinot Grigio wines are one of Italy’s most popular white wines because it goes down smoothly, and still has lots of fruit flavor and bright acidity to stand up to many foods.

Pinot Noir Wines

There are three places in the world where pinot noir wines thrive best. I will discuss all three here, but there are many other places growing good pinot noir.

Rose Wine

It’s summertime and there’s no better wine to drink during Summer than rosé wine! Especially, those of us that like red wines benefit by it’s ability to go with foods.

Sangiovese Wines or Chianti

There are many districts in Tuscany that make sangiovese wines (Chianti). For example, Chianti made near Siena is called Chianti Colli Senesi.
